A sensitization workshop on corruption, ethics and integrity was held at the Central catering Unit for Students Welfare Authority (SWA) staff.
Vice Chancellor, Prof. Peter Mbithi noted that Corruption can impair growth of any organization. He urged the staff members to serve everyone without any prejudice and favouritism. He said that for the University to produce high quality graduates, staff members have to stop corrupt practices and uphold integrity and accountability.
The procurement manager, Mr. Joseph Mokaya speaking on the new procurement law that came in effect on the 7th January, 2016 said that items that are not in the procurement plan and have neither been budgeted for should not be bought.
Senior Legal officer from the legal office, Mr. Fred Omondi said that there are policies within the University structure that should be used in the fight against corruption. Such policies include; University of Nairobi Charter, University of Nairobi Code of Conduct and Ethics, Code of Conduct for Public Universities, Leadership and Integrity code for State Officers, Mwongozo code of conduct, professional code of conduct among others.
Present during the sensitization was Registrar, administration, Dr. Dismus Bulinda, Director, SWA, Mr. Lugwe among others.
